Job Summary The Systems Operations Manager is responsible for managing Education Weekrsquos technical infrastructure and resources in a strategic manner. The Systems Operations Managerrsquos position is critical as all of EdWeekrsquos employees rely on this technology continually to do their jobs. Responsibilities include ensuring security and reliability, resource management, and departmental long-term planning. This position will often be focused on internal systems but will regularly partner with the Digital Operations team to support our online platform, as well. This is a full-time position, but contractors will also be considered. Responsibilities Work with various stakeholders throughout the organization to support initiatives that leverage technology. Manage IT-focused projects and participate in cross-functional project teams. Responsible for appropriate and cost-effective management of IT resources. Provide long-term planning to assure that the Department is prepared for the future. Develop strategies and acquire technologies that support a mobile and teleworking workforce. Ensure the security of the Education Week network while also supporting the need for remote access. Technology and staff support. Ensure employees are trained to make the most productive use of the technology available. Write and continuously update Standard Operating Procedures documentation. Maintain a business continuity program. Monitor backup activity to ensure reliability. Periodically conduct a business continuity test. Manage and maintain a hardware inventory database Qualifications Bachelorrsquos Degree or equivalent technical training. 5+ years related experience. Extensive knowledge in the field of information technology. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current trends in technology. Experienced in the following Windows Active Directory administration Network Administration Virtual Infrastructure administration (VMware, Hyper-V) Cloud hosting administration (MS Azure) Project management Vendor management Hardware support Familiar with the following Digital publishing technology VoIP implementation and configuration (Mitel experience a plus) Enterprise storage solutions Collaboration support (Slack, Atlassian Suite, Office 365) Business process management Cyber Security Aptitude for embracing and learning new technologies. Ability to think strategically about use of emerging technologies and recommend new ways to further develop the mission and goals of Education Week. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Solid time management, organizational and prioritization skills. Detail-oriented, deadline-focused, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with various levels of management and clients. Comfortable giving presentations, providing group training, and delivering company-wide messaging. Good team player, with a willingness to assist others, and share expertise.
