Associate Managing Editor

Job Description

Kaplan Publishing is searching for a Managing Editor to work with editorial, production, manufacturing, and all distribution channels to take all Kaplan products from concept to fruition on a structured, deadline driven schedule. As Managing Editor at Kaplan Publishing, you will be integral to ensuring the success of our product releases through schedule management, ensuring collaboration with internal and external partners, and overseeing the completeness and accuracy of product metadata. The managing editor will need to be a forward thinking problem solver who can be flexible and innovative about the needs of the business as our products evolve. He or she should be able to easily identify the need for and to assist in the creation of reports and processes to better manage and communicate changes to all product stakeholders.

This individual will report to the Director of Data Management, and the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

* Ensure timely, accurate, and complete collection, entry, and maintenance of individual product information into product db, according to BISG best practices and Kaplan stakeholder needs


* Produce, populate, and manage scheduling templates for all production schedules


* Create, manage, and update training manuals and process documents and ensure dissemination to internal stakeholders


* Send ONIX feeds to digital and print partners


* Enter and upload POD files to POD vendor portals


* Upload cover art, SITB files, and ePub files into product db for distribution to print and digital partners


* Run reporting for current stakeholders, as well as determine the need for new reporting


* Conduct weekly status update meetings with each business unit to discuss all aspects related to current publishing schedule and metadata to ensure on time and accurate creation and release of product


* Manage the collection and dissemination of data needed to create seasonal P&Ls


* Enter and update author information in royalty system and mail bi-annual royalty statements/checks to authors



Requisite Skills

* Minimum of 3 years project management experience, with a large volume of content in different formats (ePub, PDF, paperback, etc.)


* Experience with TMM, SmartSheets, and JIRA a plus


* Highly motivated, analytical, organized, detail oriented and deadline driven


* Familiarity with and understanding of distribution formats for print and digital materials


* Ability to work on, multi-task, and prioritize a high volume of projects simultaneously


* Capable of working autonomously and as a team member to collaborate with others on innovative new processes for product development and workload management


* Excellent interpersonal communication skills


* Desire to learn, adapt and change, and embrace new technologies to accommodate team/process needs


* Strong proficiency in Excel with the ability to analyze and manipulate data for effective presentation to distribution clients, Kaplan's business units, etc.
