Request for Proposal:Consulting Position in Database Marketing + Audience Development
Project Overview:Springer Publishing Company, a small-to-midsize publisher of print and electronic resources for the student and professional health care market, is looking to engage an expert consultant in database marketing to lead efforts to optimize our customer/prospect data quality and assist in the implementation of an audience development strategy for superior targeting and campaign performance. This is a short-term, immediately available consulting position and can be remote with meetings in our offices or ideally based in our New York City office.The project is expected to be completed within 3 months, with the result being the optimization of our marketing database capabilities and developing a strategic and tactical plan for data hygiene and audience development. The project will involve hands-on database work (Marketo and Salesforce), strategic and tactical planning, and the implementation of analytical benchmarks and reporting.
Springer Publishings customer base is varied, comprising many professions, often with multiple roles, sub-specialties, and experience levels within the health care and behavioral sciences fields, as well as higher education. This role will provide expert support in the structuring of customer/lead data, developing requirements and methods for long-term and large-scale acquisition of new subscribers/prospects, meeting market share goals, and instituting processes to enhance and maintain data quality. The role will utilize internal CRM and marketing automation tools (Salesforce and Marketo), and will work closely with the VP of Marketing, Marketing Automation Specialist, Salesforce administrator, and others in the organization. The requirements are such that upon project completion, data structure will be optimized, processes put into place to drive the acquisition of new contacts, data hygiene processes will be instituted, and internal training and reporting will be provided as applicable.Specifically, the outcomes of the project are:Phase 1:Plan1.Following extensive analysis of existing data structures and discussions with key personnel, recommend the customer/prospect marketing data structures required for best-of-class targeting and personalization.2.With input from key personnel, develop an actionable opt-in and audience development plan that ensures optimal data hygiene and includes a process for progressive profiling and demographic data appending/enrichment.3.Identify areas of improvement and the roadmap to achieving the above outcomes with applicable KPIs, metrics, benchmarks, goals, and time frame for their achievement, as well as any reports needed.Phase 2:Implementation1.Provide a detailed action plan with timeline and costs to implement improvements required to existing data and data structures to enable best-of-class targeting.2.Create all needed reports and dashboards.
Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:The candidate will be asked to provide demonstrated examples of similar projects successfully completed, whether on the brand or the agency/consulting side.10+ years in a customer data management and database marketingExpertise in customer data best practices, database marketing and data management, segmentation, data hygiene, and data appendingSalesforce.com CRM (Sales Cloud) and Marketo experience requiredPreferred: healthcare industry, higher education, and/or publishing experience
