ABOUT THE ROLEThis Old House Ventures seeks an experienced Editorial Production Manager with a keen eye for detail and amazing production as well as excellent communications skills to supervise and track the workflow of copy, layouts and artwork (including minor color correction and altering of illustrator files), adhering to the Manufacturing schedule with the Copy, Editorial and Art departments. The ideal candidate must be able to work with all departments by developing schedules and enforcing deadlines to ensure a smooth, on-time production cycle.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMAGAZINE PRODUCTIONSupervises and tracks the flow of copy, layouts and artwork, paying close attention to the manufacturing scheduleHelps manage the workflow at the magazineKeep up-to-date with current departmental production policies, including evolving styles and workflow protocolsCreates and maintains InDesign/InCopy templates and style sheetsCleans/tightens up layouts, checks them into WoodWing, attaches text, applies styling, etcHandles technical issues related to filesActs as the internal pre-press department to ensure files are accurate and clean before shipping to the printerWorks with offsite digital imaging company ensuring that all requested retouching is done and accurate. Is the liaison between the art department and the printerWorks with Photography Director on trafficking hi-res images and image quality controlMonitors maintenance of printers, proofersTroubleshoots computer problemsManages the servers
POST MAGAZINE PRODUCTIONArchives issues, files, and artCreates and uploads stitched PDFs for web, digital editions, PR, etcReviews/approves invoices from the printerWorks with the digital department (fixing broken links, replace illegible illustrations, add tags, etc)Work with the design team on digital editionsOther responsibilities as needed

SKILLS NEEDEDAt least 3-5 years of magazine production experience requiredExcellent proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and WoodWing EnterpriseExperience with enhanced publishing techniques a plusExperience working with CMS and DAM systemsKnowledge or interest in HTML coding a plusFantastic production and organizational skillsDetail-orientedStrong communication and interpersonal skills are essential
